Fireworks!

Saturday night we (Doug and I, his parents) went down to Old Town Alexandria to celebrate the 4th of July and the city's anniversary. We got there early to do a little shopping and to eat dinner at Chart House. Then we headed over to Oronoco Park to watch the fireworks. They set up a stage so the Alexandria Orchestra could play before the fireworks began and while they were being shot (you can hear the music in the video posted below). We had front row seats right behind the military and their families. After watching the Marines walk around 4 cannons set up right on the banks we concluded the firework booms were not going to be the only booms we heard that night. They were loud but tolerable. I think the Marines (aka 5 yr old boys) had a lot of fun shooting the cannons. Maybe a little too much... The sky opened up once and we got soaked (thankfully there was a parking lot close by we could hide under until the storm passed over) but other than that it was a perfect evening. The best part was they shot the fireworks off from a barge in the river. So no matter where you were sitting (we happened to have perfect seats) you had a great show. The city does it every year so hopefully we will be able to go back again next year.
