Doug update

Doug got home from his training conference in Atlanta last night. His "bullet wounds" look MUCH better! However, he has broken out into a rash or has hives all over his back, upper arms, and chest. His skin is blotchy everywhere else but it's just red on those three spots. It is really itchy and he is having a very hard time not scratching. The doctor called him in a steroid cream and we put it on last night. Unfortunately, the rubbing on of the cream just irritated the rash/hives more and he was itching like crazy. We called the pharmacist at 10 last night and asked him what to do. He told Doug to take more Benadryl and try to relax. Around 1 he went and got on the couch. We tried cold cloths, hyrdocortisone cream, and 4 Benadryl. I got in a few hours of sleep before the storms hit. Doug should be going to the doctor in the morning so I will let you know how it goes.

Gunshot wounds

I know I said I was going to blog about this yesterday but it just didn't happen. Sorry. So here's what has been going on...

About 3 or so weeks ago, Doug got what we thought was an in-grown hair on his stomach. It was there, by itself, for about a week then others began to appear. We didn't think anything of it until they started being very painful for him and they looked so bad. So last Monday he went to a prompt care facility and they told him it looked like Staph. They gave him antibiotics and pain pills and told him to come back if it did not improve by Friday. So on Friday, when they looked worse and hurt even more, we went to a dermatologist. She agreed it was staph and decided the best thing to do was open up all the abscess and drain them. This was very, very painful for him and I hated to watch him go through it. The doctor assured us he would fill better within a couple of days so he gritted his teeth and prayed it would be over soon. They put him on another antibiotic along with the one he was already taking and gave him some ointment to put on his stomach.

We should get the culture back on Monday or Tuesday and we will know exactly what it is. So far, he feels a little bit better but he is still in pain. Some of the abscess look better but the worst ones do not. He has to go back next Friday for the doctor to check on them so I hope they will be looking much better by then. If they are not, I am not sure what we will do. They may put me on some medicine once they get the culture sample back and they know exactly what they are dealing with but so far I have no symptoms.

With his bandages on, he looks like he has been in a gun fight. He keeps telling everyone they are his gunshot wounds. Ha! So please keep Doug in your thoughts. He leaves tonight for a conference in Atlanta and will not be back until Wednesday. I will keep you updated on how he is doing. Thanks for all the well wishes we have received so far. Doug really appreciates them. And thanks to all my googler's and doctor friends for the advice and the concern. What would we do without Webmd, right?

Happy 14 week old Birthday Auburn!

I am posting this just to show you how big our little girl has gotten in just a short time. We have had her for 8 weeks (Got her when she was 6) and she turned 14 weeks old Friday. I look back at the pictures we took of her on our first day together and I am amazed at how big she has got. In most, you could not tell just by looking at her but when she is eating out of her small puppy bowl and laying in her bed you can really tell.

I keep asking her to stop growing but so far she has not listened to me.

From Heather's Kitchen

Last night I made another new recipe using the new Philadelphia Cooking Creme. It was so good! I tried the Italian Herb and Cheese last week. Doug liked it, I didn't. The recipe I made last night called for the Original cooking creme flavor. So now I only have one more left to try, the Savory Garlic.
Here is the recipe and don't forget you can find this one and more at
http://www.kraftbrands.com/philly/recipes/cooking-creme/Pages/all-flavors.aspx

Cajun Alfredo Skillet

1/2 lb chicken breasts cut into bite sized pieces
1/2 lb smoked sausage
1 Tbsp Cajun seasoning (I of course used much more so add to taste)
2 tsp oil
1 each Bell pepper, Red pepper, & Onion
(If you are not a pepper/onion fan or want more veggies, you can add any variety to this dish and it will taste just fine. I think next time I am going to add a veggy stir-fry mix.)
1 tub Philadelphia Original Cooking Creme
1/4 cup milk
2 cups penne pasta

1. Cook chicken in oil with 1/2 Tbsp Cajun seasoning
2. Add raw vegetables and cook 6-7 mins until chicken is done and veggies are tender
3. Add sausage and cook 3 mins
4. In separate pot, cook pasta then drain
5. Add cooking creme, milk, and remaining seasoning to meat & veggie mixture; cook 2-3 mins until heated through
6. Add cooked pasta and simmer on low heat until heated through

Another new phone

Yep. My 2nd Samsung Fascinate has gone bonkers on me and my third one is on its way. Now do you know why I liked my old dinosaur Samsung, the one I had forever before this one, so much?!?
Doug was having problems with his phone Sunday, so he called Verizon to trouble-shoot. They wanted to call him at another phone but when they tried to call mine it was not accepting calls. After an hour trouble-shooting on my phone they got it working. They could not figure out what was wrong with his so they just went ahead and sent him a new one. The next day my internet was not connecting at all and other random things on my phone were not working. So Doug called Verizon back and they agreed it was probably best just to go ahead and send me a new phone too.
So by tomorrow Doug and I will have 2 new (refurbished) phones. Yay!

... I should get to upgrade in August to the I-Phone!

Photo Shoot

Here is the VERY condensed version of the past few photo shoots we have had in the past few weeks. Feel free to be in awe of my camera skills.

Hanging out on the couch with Mommy. Once she learned how to get up there, she does it every night.

Etiquette training... Pinkies up!

Seriously, Mom! Another picture!

I swear she has the longest tongue in the world!

Scratch my belly! Scratch my belly!

Practicing "Sit"

Can I please have that toy you are dangling in front of me just outside the camera's view?!?

Raw and Embarrassing

Doug and I happen to live very close to a Chili's. We enjoy eating at Chili's so we figured one being right next to our house would be a great thing. Or maybe not...
I can not remember if I have ranted on this Chili's or not so please forgive me if I am being redundant. First, whoever designed this Chili's should be fired. There are 3 tables that will fit a party of more than 4 and the other tables are halved, 4 people and 2 people. I would say there are there are less than 30 tables total in the entire place. It is tiney! And you have VERY little space between each table. Second, the parking lot is tiney. Most of the time we have to park in the grass empty lot next to the restaurant. I once parked in the to-go parking spot because it was raining like crazy and I was not about to tromp through the mud and rain just to eat there because they are morons and did not add enough parking spaces. Third, their customer service sucks. We once had a waiter quit while waiting on our table. It takes forever to get your drink orders sometimes and the food takes even longer. Fourth, most of the time, when you do finally get your food, it is wrong. Either they just flat out bring you the wrong food or it is not cooked the way you requested it (or they way it should be(like over cooked ribs)). And lastly, it has not changed. They have been open for a couple of years now and they still suck. But me and Doug keep going hoping they have finally got their stuff together.
I could go on and on with specific examples but I will skip to our last two experiences.
I will however note the time before these past two visits when we had to request to be moved to a different table. Two VERY large women where in the booth behind us and they scooted our seat so far back I could barely squeeze into the space between the table and back of our chair. Doug did not keep so quite about this "problem". Oops!
Since Chili's is so close, we have been opting to pick up our food and bring it home so we could skip the bad service. So a couple of weeks ago Doug called in our order, went and picked it up, and brought it home. We sat down to eat and I realized there was only one box in the bag. Of course it is my salad. Doug calls up there and they say, "Oh yeah. It's sitting right here." So Doug talks to the manager and they offer to bring it to us. He tells them no and he goes and picks up my fresh salad along with a couple of coupons to use on our next visit for the inconvenience.
Fast forward to last night. I should have known something was going to happen when we ordered the exact same thing. Doug goes and picks it up, from the manager who helped us last time ironically, and double checks everything is correct. He pays using the COUPONS THEY GAVE US FROM THE LAST TIME! He gets home and we dig in. After a few bites of my salad I go to cut into my buffalo chicken strips on top of the salad. Yep, you guessed it. RAW! I dropped my knife and fork and muttered, "Oh no." Doug, surprisingly calm, calls Chili's and asks to speak with the manager. I tell him my salad is cursed. The manager apologizes multiple times and refunds our money for the meal. He even said he was "embarrassed" and that he was going to personally cook my salad for us to make sure it was right. Doug went and got my "properly cooked" salad and I finally ate around 8 pm.
Now you may be asking, "Heather, why do yall keep going there?" I truly do not know. Maybe it is the margaritas. Maybe it is because, once they get it right, the food is actually good. Maybe it is because we keep getting so much of it for free. Whatever the reason, I guess I am a sucker for yummy margaritas!

Krazy Coupons

There is a new trend sweeping America, extreme couponing. You local paper or news station probably has someone to tell you where all the good deals are each week, there are web-sites dedicated to couponing, and there are even TV shows about people who are extreme couponers. Coupon is now a noun referring to a person, an adjative, and a verb. Who woulda ever thunk it?!
Well I do get a paper ever Sunday to clip the coupons and I swap with Doug's Mom to double up on the good ones. I have even subscribed to web-sites such as Smartsource.com, coupons.com, and BettyCrocker.com to get coupons off the internet. Every now and then I will get lucky and have tons of coupons to use on my grocery trip. Then other times I will have none. However, I have never really sought after specific coupons for specific grocery trips... until this weekend.
Now, I am no where near an Extreme Couponer. Couponer, yes. Extreme, no. I do not have a binder full of coupons but I do have an envelope full. But this weekend I had no coupons and I knew there were coupons out there for some items I needed. So I went online to my normal places and didn't find anything. I then started doing Google searches for specific coupons and one web-site kept coming up every single time. After the fifth or so time, I decided to check it out.
The site was crazy good. Not only do they list, alphabetically by name, the coupons, all you have to do is click on the coupon you want and it will take you straight to the link to print the coupon. It was so easy. No need to buy a paper to get the Wal-Mart, Target, or K-Mart ad. It is all there on the web-site. Just click on where you are going or what you want to buy and boom, there is your deal/coupon.

The web-site is http://thekrazycouponlady.com

Go on and look around. I promise you will find something that will help you save some money. And pass it on! It's free for goodness sakes!

Oh SH**!

I am blogging this Sunday morning at 8 am. Normally I do not get up before 10 am on a Sunday but when your husband wakes you up saying, "I hate to wake you up but..." you know it's time to get up.
Last week Auburn began running low on her dog food. A couple weeks before that, the vet gave us some fancy dog food for free to try (spend lots of money on in the future if she likes it). So at the beginning of the week we started mixing her old food with her new. She seemed to really like it and gobbled it up every time we fed her.
Last night the sh**ing began. She pooped on one of our throw pillows that was in the floor and she pooped on the carpet a few feet away. They were one after another and it probably weighed more than she did. She did ok for the rest of the night so we didn't think anything of it. When Doug got up to take her out and feed her there was poop all over her, her bed, her cage, her toys, and the carpet around her cage. I really think she played it in all last night. That is when he came in my room and said, "I hate to wake you up, but Auburn's sick." I, channeling my mother instincts, bolted out of bed and formed a plan. Doug had let her walk to the back door to go outside and he did not realize she had it all over her. Doug has to work today so we kicked it into high gear. We took her stuff out of crate, threw away what is not "salvagable", washed EVERYTHING else, scrubbed carpet, mopped where she walked in the kitchen, and scrubbed her in the tub from head to toe.
It's 8 am and I am tired! She seems to be feeling ok. She has been playing all morning and she gobbled up the Milkbones I gave her for breakfast. I am keeping a close eye on her today and heading to the store to buy her a new bed, new food, and new toys. Poor thing lost her two best friends, Bear & Duck. She keeps going back into her crate to get them. Hopefully this afternoon we will have time for a little "Mommy/Daughter" nap! LOVE THOSE! (when she lays down and actually naps!)
Thanks Ashley S for having the Scentsy party! It's really coming in handy today!
